The wine cellar of Il Pianone restaurant is set in the last remaining vestige of a medieval fortress dating back to the 12th century. The old powder magazine of the Visconti military outpost, which in the past defended the hills of Bergamo Upper Town, doesn't protect weapons and ammunition anymore, today it jealously guards the finest vintages of Italian best wines including many excellent local labels.

The wine cellar of Il Pianone Restaurant has one of the best wine collections in Bergamo old town giving prominence to local wineries and other brands of Lombardy region like the most prestigious wineries of Valcalepio, Franciacorta, Valtellina and Oltrepo. Our wine list contains the most important Italian whites and reds. White wines from Trentino Alto Adige, Friuli, Campania and Sicily as well as the most noble red wines like Sassicaia, Brunello di Montalcino, Solaia, Tignanello, not to mention the famous wines from Piedmont like Nebbiolo, Barbaresco and Barolo and many more from other Italian regions. All our wines are perfect for pairing the dishes of our fish and meat menus .

In the wine cellar of our restaurant in Castegneta, Bergamo Upper Town, to amaze even the most demanding guests, we can easily organise a delightful aperitif before lunch, serving our traditional salami along with hot and cold appetizers. Our bottle collection is also a nice backdrop for tasting a savoury glass of grappa after dinner.
